Big Little Lies Shailene Woodley on why not to use this word about women

Huge Little Lies Shailene Woodley on why not to utilize this word about ladies Huge Little Lies Shailene Woodley on why not to utilize this word about ladies Shailene Woodley is definitely not unsurprising. All things considered, she began on such youngster pearls as The OC and The Secret Life of the American Teenager before taking a star-production turn in the George Clooney vehicle The Descendants and afterward proceeding to star in the Divergent set of three (and furthermore making us weep for quite a long time in The Fault in Our Stars) and now the social wonders that is Big Little Lies. She is likewise very candid offscreen and was captured in 2016 for fighting the Dakota Access Pipeline.During an ongoing meeting at 92Y Ladders was available for, the Golden Globe-designated Woodley plunked down with SELF magazine Editor in Chief Carolyn Kylstra to talk about the fast approaching debut of the second period of Big Little Lies; the discussion at that point crescendoed into a proclamation on everything identified with ladies strengthening, treatment disgracing, and the sensitive subject of residential abuse.Follow Ladders on Flipboard!Fo llow Ladders' magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and more!On the multifaceted nature of empowermentAt one point during the meeting, Kylstra incited Woodley to clarify why she purportedly had an issue with the expression enabled being utilized to portray ladies. Woodley attested that she didn't have an issue with the word strengthening itself, yet rather disagreed with its overuse.Right now in Hollywood, the discussion I regularly have with columnists is 'what is your opinion about depicting one of the numerous solid, enabled females in your cast?' I need to ask myself, would they say they are solid? Is it true that they are engaged? Or on the other hand would they say they are simply broken, harming, chaotic, entertaining, degenerate, individuals who don't have everything in perfect order? There's a typical account encompassing female based ventures that suggest the ladies are solid and engaged. We will in general toss catchphras es out there to inspire the possibility of balance and equity that is not really tending to the genuine circumstance, which is that there is an expectation to learn and adapt by they way we would all be able to convey appropriately together to accomplish correspondence. You remove the force from strengthening by utilizing it inaccurately. On working with the Big Little Lies castWe're all altogether different individuals. We're all from various ages. We each have unmistakable generational excursions and are existing together. However, we as a whole truly like one another… regardless of whether the discussion is political or passionate, we're extremely open. We generally have a similar thought of an answer yet have various thoughts on the best way to arrive. I may have a particular thought at the top of the priority list in how to complete things, thus do the other cast individuals. I've never met a gathering of ladies who can accomplish this with such straightforwardness and genuine ness. We hold space for one another. Holding resolute to your perspective worsens unresponsiveness and absence of empathy. On the cast individuals she was most at first eager to work withI'd just worked with Laura Dern and Zoe Kravitz, so I was generally eager to work with Nicole [Kidman] and Reese [Witherspoon]. They're all so practical so you don't feel like you're working with them as legends, since they truly are such typical individuals. You never get the opportunity to see them that way. It feels exceptional to become more acquainted with them in such a cozy way.On Meryl Streep joining the castI promptly saw the way Meryl held herself and the way she easily and effortlessly handles a content. Meryl not just retains her own content, she realizes everybody else's. I recall her calling attention to a specific line in the third scene and a different line in the 60th and commenting on how they are connected. I don't think I'll ever arrive at where I'll remember everybody's lines… she has such regard for the writers. On how Big Little Lies explores the depiction of touchy subject matterBig Little Lies has been testing. What are some thoughtful approaches to deal with this, while as yet proving to be the best? Solicitation explanation of the inquiry Is it conceivable that you miss-heard the inquiry question? Possibly it's hazy or sounds like something you ought not reply. An expert method to decide whether you are managing an unseemly inquiry is to pose to the questioner to rehash the inquiry in relationship to the activity. You could state something like, Excuse me, am I hearing you accurately? Did you intend to inquire as to whether I am hitched, and how does this effect the activity I am here talking for please? Offer a single word response When the inquiry has been posed, it's past the point where it is possible to withdraw it. The questioner may either be unpracticed or not mindful of this blunder. Take a full breath, and afterward offer as straightforward a response as could be expected under the circumstances. Now and again, a single word answer will get the job done. Try not to chip in any more data than should be expected, however be well mannered and grin. Return to a past inquiry Another decision you have is to return to another inquiry question that you need to give more data to. This is an approach to change the subject, and quick. Consider something you can add to a past answer that makes you look progressively mindful. You could state something like, Oh, would we be able to discuss [subject] from already? I needed to expound on that point more. Hostile/provocation The main special case to the above standards is on the off chance that you are asked an unseemly meeting inquiry that is through and through hostile or pestering in nature. For instance, being asked what your race is or on the off chance that you might want to go out on the town. For this situation, it's reasonable to just reason yourself from the meeting room and leave. Ordinarily, individuals who are not gifted at meeting can fail. Attempt to recollect that the unseemly inquiry question could simply be an innocent mix-up. Except if it falls under the last principle, simply attempt to move onto another subject. Tess C. Citi Australias Head of Card Partnerships explains why people who succeed when working flexibly are exactly the type of talent she wants on her team

Citi Australia’s Head of Card Partnerships explains why people who succeed when working flexibly are exactly the type of talent she wants on her team Karen Farrar  joined Citi from David Jones as the Head of Card Partnerships. Karen and her team are responsible for managing Citi’s partnerships nationwide, including Qantas, Suncorp and Bank of Queensland (BoQ). Citi is constantly improving how we operate to improve the customer experience, enable sustainable growth and optimise returns. As the team aspires to scale the Partnership business, Karen keeps flexible working front of mind; it not only allows her team to manage their work life balance, but also equips them with the entrepreneurship and time management skills necessary to manage and grow Citi’s partnerships. “I came to Citi with the philosophy that in today’s dynamic business environment, we don’t need team members in the office from 9-5 in order to deliver results. What we do need, is to nurture talent by allowing them to work in ways that maximise their effectiveness. In my team there is no correlation between working flexibly and less productivity. In fact, it is quite the opposite. As a leader, I support and encourage my team’s capacity to get the work done in the way that works best for them, our team, and the business more broadly. Karen has made flexible working the norm in her team through open communication, transparency and accountability. There are a number of team members who work flexibly on a regular basis: each with their own individual arrangements. Some start and finish their day later (or earlier), while others work from home one day a week or as needed. Leaving early to pick up a child from school goes without question, as the team knows the importance of outcomes, not hours in the office. “For me, the value of flexibility is about more than being able to work from home or rearrange my working hours. It’s the security that comes with knowing I can respond to whatever conflicts and challenges arise in my life. It’s the motivation that comes with working for a company that values results over face time, and the satisfaction of being part of a high-performing team that operates on trust and empathy.” â€"  Yen Jabbour, Business Optimization Manager Jorge Marrero, Senior Commercial Manager, sees flexible working as a critical factor to retaining highly experienced and tenured talent. He believes the foundational project management skills his team have developed as a result of flexible working has been invaluable. “The Partnerships team manages a wide range of activities and internal and external stakeholders. Having teammates with diverse schedules compels us to set clear objectives and expectations from the onset. In every project, maintaining consistent communication is paramount. This has allowed us to execute initiatives seamlessly, co-ordinate better amongst each other and ultimately deliver outcomes we can be proud of.” “10 years from now, I imagine that work will be something we do, rather than someplace we go. As a society, we still have some way to go in making flexible working more widely accepted, and to do this, continuing to invest in technology is critical. For now, I’ll continue championing the cause for flexibility and build my team around those shared values.” â€"  Karen Farrar The Cards Partnership team is hiring!  See their available roles here.

When wives earn more than their husbands, they both lie about it

At the point when spouses procure more than their husbands, the two of them lie about it At the point when spouses gain more than their husbands, the two of them lie about it The topic of who acquires more seeing someone a few couples so awkward that they are happy to lie on the record about it. This is a finding that the Census Bureau found when they detailed disparities between the compensations that hetero couples put down on their Census Bureau reviews and the pay rates they put on their IRS filings. If spouses earned not exactly their wives, the husbands misrepresented the quantities of the amount they earned, saying they earned 2.9% more than they really did. On the off chance that a spouse earned more than her better half, she underreported her pay, saying she made 1.5% short of what she did. Yet, when spouses earned more than wives, out of nowhere, the two couples had the option to keep these numbers straight.Even as progress is being made for a joint couple's winning force, mentally, some can't get away from the inclination that they are damaging an accepted practice when ladies win more than men. The Census research said that when these wedded co uples disregard the standard that husbands outearn their wives, the study respondents announcing the couples' profit seem to limit the infringement by swelling the income of the lower-acquiring husbands and collapsing the income of the higher-gaining wives. When wives win progressively, neither one of the partners likes to concede itIncreasingly, the possibility of men being the essential providers is evolving. As per the Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 38% of spouses earned more than their husbands in 2015. Be that as it may, society has not yet made up for lost time to this reality. In 2017, essayist Ashley Ford reviewed 130 Millennial ladies about their tangled sentiments around being the higher-worker in a relationship. Ladies said they felt inner and outside strain to be exclusively liable for the couple's budgetary needs. It at first caused me to feel embarrassed like I was settling or it implied that I wasn't sufficiently appealing, adequate. There was a great deal of disguis ed sexism about how appealing or provocative ladies ought to be with 'fruitful' men. I stressed over what others would state, one unknown lady provider said. This pressure around gendered jobs may clarify the inconspicuous weight couples feel to lie on government structures. The Census lies give us that who gains what is certainly not a nonpartisan answer. Regardless of whether we like to transparently let it be known, we measure ourselves and our accomplices as indicated by their fiscal worth. Pay rates are personally attached to our ways of life as top-performing workers and as great accomplices who can accommodate our families. Indeed, even apparently objective, unmistakably quantifiable financial results may experience the ill effects of estimation mistake due not simply to holes in respondents' information on the result yet in addition to holes between their convictions or qualities, the scientists finished up.

Concluding the Money Makeover Series Lessons Learned

Concluding the Money Makeover Series Lessons Learned The Money Makeover Series has come to an end but in the lives of these four girls things are only just beginning! No philosophy or life plan can be completely remodeled in three months, but Kayla, Mimosa, Krystle, and Pamela are now on paths to brighter financial futures now that they’ve done a little bit of budgeting and a lot of soul searching. So what can we learn from their experiences? Kayla: In Need of a Money Plan Kayla could never shake the feeling of financial anxiety. Even after she traded in a fluctuating income as a freelance writer for a stable full-time position, she still dealt with anxiety over any unplanned purchase that came her way. She needed a plan to realize she was in control. So what was her greatest lesson after three months? Money Is Mutual Money is mutual: how you choose to handle your money directly results in how money makes you feel. If money intimidates you, you make decisions out of fear. If you put your money to work for you, you’ll feel empowered. Once Kayla had a budget in place she realized that she was in control. Seeing things on paper and turning her focus to the future of her career changed everything. Now she’s in a position to not let life or money happen to her but to take the reins and decide what path to choose. Mimosa: Ready to Launch Mimosa started out as a new grad that wanted it all an apartment to call her own, to be student loan debt-free, and to plan for a future full of travel abroad. But she was also working full-time, working to obtain a masters degree at night (which she was paying out of pocket for), and living in a very expensive city which made the prospects of moving out a bit unrealistic for her budget. That’s when Mimosa realized she had to set some priorities. So what lesson stuck with her? Fail Fast So You Can Move Forward Faster In order to pay off her student loan debt fast Mimosa needed to cut one of her favorite hobbies cold turkey shopping. And for a while she was doing great! But soon after an unexpected shopping day, Mimosa stopped tracking her budget altogether because she felt guilty about the spending spree. Then I talked to Mimosa and reminded her that budgets should be an evolutionary process. It was time to evaluate the budget and re-do it to a standard she could live with. Not too restrictive but not too free. Now Mimosa not only has a budget she can realistically follow, she took that newfound motivation into her career development as well and has now been appointed to the Young Leaders Council for the United Way in her hometown. That’s what I call a win/win! Krystle: New to the Workforce Krystle had just received her master’s degree and was looking for her first professional job when she and I began talking. In order to pay off debt and move out on her own, Krystle had to set a tight budget. Then life stepped in. Krystle’s job fell through which meant that we had to tighten up the budget even more and now she’s evaluating what she wants for her career. While this could have made so many of us give up, Krystle found the bright side and quickly learned exactly what matters most to her in her career. Now she’s on the way to making it happen! So what did she learn through all of this? The Importance of Balancing Determination and Patience Krystle’s drive, resilience, and adaptability are a recipe for success. Throw in some major positive energy and enthusiasm for toppings and how could you go wrong? Well, Krystle found through this journey that her impatience to succeed can sometimes get in the way. That’s when she told me that she wants to learn to balance her determination with a healthy dose of patience. Pamela: Future Financial Leader When Pamela and I first talked she’d just started a new job, told me that she owned her own apartment, was regularly contributing to her retirement account, and had all of her bills accounted for. What else could she need? To get rid of consumer debt. Pamela also wanted to understand finance deeply enough to become a leader for women everywhere. So what lessons did she find the most important to pass on? Learn to Give and Take Pamela’s journey to eliminate consumer debt was intense. She wanted that debt gone now! We talked about ways to lower the credit card interest rates, prioritize what credit card to pay off first, and earn more money so she could kick the payoff into turbo speed. And that she did! Pamela found a part-time job bartending at a bar down the block from her apartment. Pamela didn’t stop there. She found ways to do the things she loved for free or cheap by finding a bar to sponsor her football team and working a few hours at her yoga studio for free classes and discounted merchandise. Through all the difficulty of extra work, Pamela’s eyes are on the prize while still having fun. And soon enough she won’t have to work extra anymore and will be consumer debt-free. That buys her time and money in the foreseeable future. Moving Forward for all of Us It’s been a blast getting to know these four strong, independent women for the past few months! All of our conversations blossomed out of just finance and into their careers and desires for the future. Because at the end of the day, finance isn’t just about money. Finance is about life. Our financial situations impact the decisions we make every day, which is why it’s so important to do whatever it takes to take control and make our money work for us. So sit down and write down that spending plan. Evaluate your career and your personal life. Are you in the place you want to be? Are you close to it? Or do you feel that you need to create a whole new path? No matter what the answer may be, honestly ask yourself these questions. Then set your priorities and go. You will mess up sometimes. Your priorities may change. But if you stay accountable and stick to your goals, success is sure to be in your future.

How Do I Find Jobs on LinkedIn

How Do I Find Jobs on LinkedIn LinkedIn has rapidly become the leading job search platform where members from every industry and job function can: Quickly find career opportunities in any location Receive automatic recommendations and notifications based on job searches Apply to positions using just the LinkedIn profile Save interesting jobs for later resume submission So many people are capitalizing on LinkedIn, from getting LinkedIn training for sales teams to individual entrepreneurs using it as a content marketing platform to job seekers using it to empower their career. For them it starts with the resume. The process is actually quite simple. Convert LinkedIn Profile to a Resume One convenient built-in profile feature is the “save your profile as a .pdf” button: The resulting document looks very nice and could work as a quick resume. But if you need a more traditional resume-like appearance, you’ll want to try the LinkedIn-approved tool at http://resume.linkedinlabs.com/. “Turn your LinkedIn Profile into a beautiful resume in seconds. No more messing around with multiple Word and PDF documents scattered all over the computer. Pick a resume template, customize the content, and print and share the result to your heart’s content.” Search for Recommended Jobs LinkedIn’s “Jobs You May Be Interested In” feature shows jobs that match your profile in one or more characteristics. Find this feature by clicking Jobs at the top of your homepage. Here, you can set your preferences for company type, size, industry, and location by clicking on the icons, top right of page, and answering the screen prompts. Jobs recommend to you are based, in part, on information listed in your profile, and the preferences you set here. If you are not getting the recommended jobs you’d like to see, try changing your filters â€" remove or add filters to change the results coming to you. Advanced Search for Jobs The advanced job search available on the Jobs page can help you to run a more extensive or custom job search. You can also receive daily or weekly email alerts based on job suggestions. Jobs on Premium Account The job market is a crowded one, and standing out from the crowd is crucial. With a Premium LinkedIn account, your profile will help you stand out with these highly useful features: A larger photo A gallery of stock images to quickly create a compelling profile banner image 2x more prominent listing v. other search results, meaning that more info is displayed from your profile in a search Move to the top of a hiring manager’s list when applying to open positions as a Featured Applicant, placing your job application above those submitted by non-Premium members, and increasing the chances of having your resume viewed earlier Filter job listings by estimated salary range, homing in only on those that meet specific criteria. Salary estimates for each job posting are provided by PayScale and viewable for companies located in the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia And in addition. . . Zero in on more of the right types of people by fine-tuning a search with additional filters, such as seniority, and interests, company size, greatly reducing the time it takes to find recruiters, target companies and industry leaders Save up to 5 filtered searches, and get weekly email alerts when someone new matches your search criteria Access a complete list of members who have viewed your profile in the last 90 days v. non-Premium members who can see only the last five people See meaningful insights, such as the keywords used to find you, and the locations and industries of your viewers; extremely helpful in improving your profile and getting found more often by the right people Get access to InMail contact any member directly, even if you and the member are not 1st connections, or you don’t know the member’s email. It’s a terrific way to follow up on job applications, request introductions (up to 25 introductions to insiders at your target companies), and make new contacts. LinkedIn states that InMails are 2x more effective than emailing or cold calling. Applying for Jobs via LinkedIn Applying for a job through LinkedIn rather than through the company’s website? You can attach your resume to the application, as well as clicking on the “apply through LinkedIn” button. Here’s how: In the job application window, look for Resume/Cover Letter section and click ‘Upload a file’. Find your resume stored on your computer and select it. Your resume will be uploaded when you submit your application. But there are limitations: You must perform these action on a desktop or laptop Resumes cannot currently be attached via a mobile device File size is limited to 5 MB, and Microsoft Word or PDF format only If you want to attach your resume when applying, but hit submit and forgot to attach, you can’t go back, as this would be considered reapplying and is not allowed. If this happens, LinkedIn recommends that you contact the job poster directlyif contact information is provided and you have access to InMail. Once you’ve applied to a job opening with your profile and attached resume, the recipient will be able to view your resume and can choose to share it and your application with others at their company, for hiring purposes. In some application scenarios, the hiring company will reroute you to their job board or website to finish the application process. BONUS TIPS! Think it’s overkill to submit your resume and “apply with LinkedIn”? Think again. A well-optimized profile helps to garner interest from recruiters and hiring managers. But you can also tweak your resume to better match the position for which you are applying. This can lead to better responses because your resume will match the position more closely when run through the company’s Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), impressing more employers. If you are enjoying our podcast, please leave us a review on iTunes! It would mean the world. Thank you! Your Second Act QA: (Here are a few of the questions Anna answered on the podcast) What strategies do you recommend for women looking for more balance and fulfillment? One of the most important things is getting clear on what your ideal workday is to begin with. Thats one thing we forget to do when we job search or start a business. What do you want to happen when you wake up? I am still doing this today as I run my business. If everything was going perfectly, what time would you wake up? What would you do first thing? Would you work by yourself? Where would you work? What would your lunch break look like? Know what you want first. I also challenged myself to do a networking challenge. Talking to a lot of other people gave me clarity and confidence. In 2011, I did a 4X4 networking challenge where I met with 4 people I did know and 4 people I did not know every month. If you look who I talked to throughout that year, I changed what I wanted to do during that year and I got really focused after that networking challenge. The people I spoke to gave me so much more clarity about the direction I wanted to go, even though it might sound  scary to talk to people when you dont know what you want. Ask them what their workday is and see if it matches your ideal workday. How did you start networking and doing informational interviews? The four people I already knew each month in my challenge are those people who escape from your to-do list like your grandma or your aunt. Those people are easy to network with but we get busy and forget them unfortunately. So you have to make them a priority first. I also counted a networking event as one person I didnt know. It was a lot of introductions and LinkedIn messaging. I did a ton of informational interviews. I searched career coaches and messaged all of them in San Diego. I did informational interviews with all of them. The first month is the hardest because you are starting from scratch. Most people have someone they can introduce you to. At the end I would always ask, Do you have anyone that would be beneficial for me to talk to? I planned ahead a month prior so I knew the 8 people I would meet the month before. Most of the time I ended up meeting with more people anyways. It was just 15-minute calls too because I didnt have a lot of time. But, you do have a lunch break or you can do an early morning call before work, right? Its not easy and its not overnight but you get a ton of clarity from it. It helped me get started much faster because now I partner with a lot of those same career coaches that I interviewed previously in my challenge. What do you think are some mistakes people make in career transitions? I think one of the biggest mistakes is having a negative  mindset and being scared and fearful. Telling yourself that your goal is not going to work. Be aware of your mindset and the words you are telling yourself all the time. Are you saying that the job isnt possible or that dream business isnt possible? You could never do something like that. Are you listing all of the negative things that could go wrong? Getting around people who are going to support you and are positive and believe you can start a business or get your dream job on CNN. It really all is possible. The other mistake is not knowing what the right career fit is for you when you start job searching. I see so many people online job searching and not having any success because they are applying to any old job out there. Every one of my courses is all about starting at square one. What is your calling and your purpose?

C-level Executives Resistant to Online Presence - Executive Career Brandâ„¢

C-level Executives Resistant to Online Presence Before first speaking with a  prospective client, a c-level executive in commercial real estate business development, I searched to see if he had a complete profile. And I Googled his name to see how many search results associated with him were on the first few pages. This is my standard practice before any initial chat. Mark’s slapdash profile, which only contained his name, job titles, and education â€" no summary or supporting information â€" was his only search result on page one for my Google search of his name. This was his only quality search result on any of the first several pages. As we were discussing how we would work together on branding and job search strategies, he mentioned that a recruiter contact cautioned him that he had Googled Marks name and came up with only one or two search results. What does that tell you, Mark?, I asked. He said, Well, I guess a few niche headhunters look at whats online for people, so its becoming more popular, but it probably doesnt happen that often. I made him aware that Googling potential candidates, and searching them on , was already a pervasive practice among recruiters and employers hiring decision makers. When we discussed building his online footprint, he was resistant. I dont know about all that, he said. I wouldn’t feel right having my name and things about me plastered all over the place. To his way of thinking, profiles represented an accepted online presence, so it was okay with him and he figured he had to have one. He said he didn’t need or want anything else. At the heart of Mark’s resistance was the fear of exposing himself to the world. But his fear could prolong his job search, rendering him nearly invisible to the very people whose radar he needed to get on. Because he’s not digitally distinct, he runs the risk of being passed over by hiring authorities who source and assess good-fit candidates based on what they find (or don’t find) about them online. And with little to no online presence supporting his brand and ROI value, in their eyes he’s not social media savvy. They’ll wonder how well he’s kept up with the new world of work and business. In my experience, there are still a lot of top-level executives who are resistant to (or dont see the need for) having an online identity beyond their profiles. I wrote about this over a year ago on my Executive Resume Branding blogsite. At the time, I was specifically seeing a lot of resistance to , which no longer seems to be the case. As in Mark’s case, most of the top-level execs I speak with these days know they need a profile, but often need help branding it and fully fleshing it out. Mark and I discussed possible online identity-building options and strategies that may be a good fit for him â€" Google and other online profiles, writing book reviews on Amazon, blog commenting, etc. â€" and I directed him to my posts: Does Your Online Identity Scream Hire Me? 10 Ways to Build Your Personal Brand Online Without a Blog Maximize Your Executive Brand Online with the 6 P’s 00 0
